I’m not going to say this installment of death traps is overtly clever. If there was ever a motivation goal for a film like this, that would have to be a good one. And all that is good.Įscape Room 2 starring Holland Roden Who Dies in Escape Room Tournament of Champions?īetween electrocution, laser grid alarm systems, quicksand, and hydrochloric acid, there is plenty of entertainment to be had while Zoey champions finding the people behind the game to prove they exist. But this film felt like a combination of Final Destination and Jigsaw culminating in a war of intellect that just happens to result in death if you get the answer wrong. I was far more detached from the character profiles beyond the leads that carried over into the sequel. On the downside, the kill scenes in Tournament of Champions are much softer and less gutwrenching than I’ve seen in other movies in this niche. In addition seasoned Escape Room 2 cast gives great performances, and never takes a breath. What I love, though, is the voracious ability of this film and its sequel to be well set up. A self-aware bunch that knows the setting seems familiar from time to time. What’s more, the characters even comment on the repetitive nature of their surroundings. Mother of Movies doesn’t care that the narrative all feels derivative. Between flashbacks to the film before Escape Room 2 and getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the whacky lives of those who design the games, the predictability of what’s to come vomits into the proceedings. If you didn’t just finish the previous original horror movie, it’s safe to say you will be feeling as puzzled as to the puzzles that are yet to reveal themselves. The whole first fifteen minutes feel haphazard and awkward. There’s no denying Tournament of Champions had a messy start. Zoey wants to overcome her fear of flying, but at the last minute decides to instead drive her and Ben to where Minos was last seen. Prior to their entrapment, Zoey and Ben were trying as hard as they could to find the people responsible for their physical and mental scars. But this time when they assemble, the big picture of the corporation is eked into the storyline. ![]() Minos has rounded them all up like mice in a rat race and dumped them all in a train car. The Minos Corporation’s final survivors are back. The question is, though, how will this film set itself apart from the others? We could all use a refresher after the year we’ve had, right? In this new Escape Room movie, we again have six people. The opening for this round of death by all things recaps from a few earlier pivotal scenes. A direct sequel to the first installment from 2019. So to say I was beyond frothing to see this is an understatement. What’s more Adam Robitel came back to direct for the Escape Room sequel. ![]() Escape Room 2 movie, yes “that escape room.” How could Mother of Movies not review this new escape room film? If you didn’t already know, Mother of Movies has a thirst for this slate of gambling with life and death via escape room films.
